well i feel like i have to say this again.. this is one of my favourite chinese animation... there are so many things that are great about it and a few thing that arent but honestly in retrospective they by far pale in comparison. The more mature theme with philosophical quandaries about what's good and whats evil truly.. the convoluted and complicated situation, the characters that felt human with real problems and feelings.. this is what every animation should aspire to be. There are many things that didnt completely make sense and if there will be a second season i would like them clarified.. its not perfect but its a very firm step towards it. I also loved that not everything revolves around the MC and how awesome and perfect he is.. at times it was a bit frustrating.. This felt like an awesome backstory to what will follow, i really really hope there will be a next season

Honestly, I didn't care for this series as much I thought I would, the beginning was interesting but by this episode I was watching with a straight face and yawning. Maybe it's just my thoughts right now, so I'll revisit a little later and see if my thoughts change.

Damn yo that was just beautifully done, like one thing I will always say bout this donghua is how smoothly well done they make the battle scenes and the flow of pacing throughout the show, yea there were times shit didn't really make since and times where you just wanted to shake your head in disbelief of what MC was think'n, but this can't be the end. No way they pull that " Soul Land" sacrifice of Biyao at the end there, and for that expo dump like her soul is beyond saving the bells manage to absorb her soul, rumors have it of a witch tribe in the desert that they master strange sorcery, but their tribe just urban legend there for Xiao Fan to go on this epic journey to try and find if they exist, and to see if they can help revive what possible left of Biyao soul. I just know and there's still just to many questions up in the air that they haven't address yet, for no season 2 to clarify things. So fingers crossed I know a season 2 is on the way. Overall a well indeed great donghua one that most def deserve a second season.

Well...despite an incredibly frustrating MC who at times drove me nuts, in the end I really enjoyed this series. It's hardly what I'd call complex, but it gave us a taste of something quite innovative compared to most donghua: emphasis on rival religious/cultivation philosophies; hints as to their historical roots; their dark underbellies; and the psychological consequences on a subject caught in the middle.

And I'm tempted to say this had some of the best animation I've ever seen in donghua--rivaling or even surpassing Fanren, at times. Some of the scenes looked almost rotoscoped. Oh, and that Ed song was AMAZING.

Probably the most underappreciated series of the year imo.

Bro I can't say that I am disappointed in mc because it was already told that mc don't have talent for cultivation pulse he has to cultivate two different kinds of methods that repell each other but in season 2 we'll see mc in real action because during 10 year he would have cultivate 3 different kinds of method ( 3rd is demon method ).

the Shaolin Monks passed all of his knowledge to XiaoFan does it only need for him to solidified his cultivation level to unleash the techniques so the Tao is his 2nd cultivation path does they say Buddhism and Tao are the Same path and in 10 yrs XiaoFan cultivated Demon method just to find way to revive BiYao does make him find the origin of Buddism,Tao and Demon come from the same origin

Xiao Fan definitely deserve to be angry; these so called righteous sects are hypocritical (similar to IRL churches) and don't follow what they preach.

All those years of suffering in maintaining the monk's secret and and enduring the daily practice of the monk's technique along with his abstinence of his love for Biyao in order to dutifully follow the sect rules were all for naught. All he got in return was a heart-breaking lie, a thousand stabs to the back, a giant sword to the face, and lost love.

That sect leader was damn brutal casting that even with his disciples in the fray.

Funny enough though, I thought Biyao was casting Rho Aias (from Fate/SN).

Looks like Season 2 might take place 10 years later, Zhang Xiaofan is dead and there's only Gui Li because Righteous Faction people mind-fucked ZXF till death and then thought it wasn't enough and mind fucked his dead corpse even harder and got Biyao killed to cause him to resurrect as Gui Li.

I am fairly certain Season 2 he'll be so different from Season 1, many of you who actually sticks around will wonder if they are even the same person LMAO!

This was a good season even though I had moments I was frustrated by the MC but taking into account that he is a teenager still finding himself. I mean even in our early 20s we still trying to find ourselves but except for that, I pity in the two last episodes after finding out that the man he accepted as a teacher actually betrayed him and slaughtered his people. I’m not surprised he went crazy. After such a powerful ending I wonder will they try to revive Biyao but all in all this is definitely one of my top 10 donghua.

So is Bi Yao gone??? Sure she's kind of crazy, but there is a place in my heart for crazy girls in-love.
I still have a lot of questions though. For example:
Why was the sect master(SM) so willing to kill XF after he just saved SM's life that same day, even though they had be throwing confirmed false accusations against him for months? And he admitted that it will reflect poorly on himself.

This is the example of someone lying to himself so much in order to fool others that he becomes convinced by his own lie.

You can hear Sect Master said to himself "This boy (MC) has fallen to the Demonic (Dark) Side and is beyond redemption so I must do what is necessary for Good of the world"

The truth is, he realized he fucked up and the Dogmatic Drones in the Righteous Faction had pushed an extremely powerful asset away.

The thing about learning other School's Skills being taboo is not just to protect their secret skills so if you want to know how to use magic power, you must join them... it is also because Daoist and Buddhist Schools cannot mix.

In summary:
Daoist School emphasize on strengthening self by taking from the world - being open to external influences and learning from others.

Buddhist School emphasize on strengthening self by removing negative influences from the world. You should be the one who save/influence others.

Both Schools have their strengths and weaknesses but they don't mesh very well as you can see since one takes the world into them, the other throw the world out.

The MC being able to do it means he will be extremely powerful. The Sect Master and Righteous Faction people aren't stupid, even the dogmatic drones! So Sect Master saw the MC as a potential threat because he is a dogmatic drone of the Faction who sees everyone that is not with him, automatically against him.

bi yao soul was forcefully absorb in the bell we might still have a chance to see her again if XF finds the witch tribe they were talking about in the end

This was one of the few good donghuas. I liked how there was no distinct "good" or "evil". It was simply people, with their own problems and way of thinking what's "good" and "evil". In the end, such thinking let to a tragedy.
apropos, sadness. I wonder what happened after Biyao fell? Did they stopped fighting and made peace? or did they continued to fight. there's some important infor missing!

Didnt expect this will get this popular...

i was so excited to watch first few episodes even searched for the novel and read few chapters. Afterwards i found out that "bi yao" will not be our mcs wife. I couldnt accept it so I dropped this for that reason.

i just want something interesting/ something exciting to watch. dont care about how realistic the characters are or how complicated the story is.(Heck if i want all that ill just watch some drama or something)
